Comprehensive Coordinated Early Intervening Services

Comprehensive Coordinated Early Intervening Services (CCEIS) Program provides direct support to schools to cultivate safe, healthy, welcoming and affirming learning and working environments where all students thrive. The Systems of Support Advisor (SoSA) supports the school and individual students to reduce the disproportionate representation of students in special education.

The term significant disproportionality is used to describe the widespread trend of students of certain racial and ethnic groups being identified for special education, placed in more restrictive educational settings, and disciplined at markedly higher rates than their peers. As the SoSA advisor at Mark Twain MS, I have been able to support classrooms in reimagining how students can access the curriculum, and see themselves included in it. During the 2021-2022 school year, we were able to purchase Anti Bias & Anti-Racist themes books for ALL Mark Twain scholars and classroom libraries. Additionally, flexible classroom furniture, inclusion posters, fidget tools and technology were acquired through the program. As we envision the educational systems we want for ALL of our scholars, we will continue to work towards equal access, justice, inclusion as we invite our staff and students to re-imagine how teaching and learning looks and feels at Mark Twain Middle School.
