DLP Mandarin

Language immersion, or also immersion program, is a learning method used in language education for which every single activity a student performs is carried out in a foreign language. The language is therefore not simply taught as a subject to learn, but as a tool for students to communicate, learn and have fun.

Foreign language immersion is an approach to teaching another language that involves immersing students in the target language throughout the school day. Teachers speak only the target language to teach academic subjects, using a wide range of instructional strategies.

FLI Mandarin program at Mark Twain Middle School started in the Fall of 2016. students have a minimum of two periods in a seven-period day that are taught 100% in Mandarin. They are Mandarin Culture and Mandarin Language. 

The Program Goals are:

语言浸入式学习，也称沉浸式学习，是一种语言教学中使用的学习方法，学生的每一项活动都是用外语进行的。因此，语言不只是作为一门学习的科目，而是作为学生交流、学习和提升乐趣的工具。沉浸式教学是一种让学生在学习期间沉浸在目标语言中的教学方法。教师只说目标语言来教授学术科目，同时使用广泛的教学策略。

马克图恩中学的中文沉浸式项目成立于2016年秋季，学生七节课中有两节均以100%中文进行学习。目前，这两节课分别为中国文化课及中文语言课。
